The Campaign to Fund the Net--and address other Problem Bridges

We are fighting the suicide problem on the Golden Gate Bridge and our strategy can help us and other communities with suicide-prone bridges.

We are asking for a simple amendment to the Federal Transportation Act that will allow, not require, local authorities to apply for federal funds to add suicide deterrent barriers to their problem bridges.

We believe this will resolve the problem for the Golden Gate Bridge and end decades of tragedy at this National Monument. In addition, suicides will be stopped at other problem bridges where local authorities want to end these deaths as well.

Taking Action: What You Can Do

This is a grassroots effort to enlist aid of people across the nation who want to see an end to bridge suicides.

We would ask that you join us by writing and calling your Member of Congress. Let them know that you support this effort and want them to support it also.

Email, mail and than call your representatives in Congress and let them know how important this is to you!

Make the Net Real

With any grassroots effort, it takes people passing the message on to others.

Send this on to your family, friends, and co-workers (if your company allows this).

Ask your local suicide prevention or support groups if they are aware of this. Ask them to support you and be part of this effort.

Write to and talk with your state’s Department of Transportation. Ask them to support this.

Contact your local law enforcement, police and sheriff and other first responder groups such as fire and rescue and paramedic groups to support this, because they are directly affected by suicide attempts and completions.

Post this on your website and social network pages and keep posting it frequently.

Remind people that lives can be saved when there are restrictions to lethal methods of suicide and show them how.
